Slack
The Foxglove bot answers questions in Slack. Ask it about Foxglove features and about your organization's data, and it replies in the channel or thread where you asked.
The bot draws on two sources: the Foxglove documentation and your organization's data — devices, Projects, sites, and events. It searches the docs and cites its sources, and it reads your data through the same operations you'd perform in the app.
The bot doesn't send proactive notifications. For a grounded back-and-forth about a recording you have open in the app, use AI.
Before you start
An organization admin has to install the bot. Anyone in the workspace can use it once it's installed.
Install the bot
An admin installs the bot once per Slack workspace:
- In the Foxglove web app, go to Settings → Integrations → Slack.
- Click Add to Slack.
- Approve the requested permissions in Slack to finish the install.
Finish the install in the web app — the last step redirects through your browser. In the desktop app, Settings → Integrations → Slack links you there.
A Foxglove organization connects to a single Slack workspace.
Connect your account
The first time you message the bot, it asks you to link your Foxglove account. Linking attributes your Slack messages to your Foxglove user and controls what data the bot can access on your behalf.
View or remove the link anytime on the Connected accounts settings page.
Ask the bot
You can talk to the bot in two ways:
- Direct message — send the bot a DM for a private conversation.
- @mention in a channel — invite the bot to a channel, then @mention it in a message. In a threaded reply, @mention it again to bring it into the thread.
The bot follows the conversation in a thread, so you can ask follow-up questions without repeating context. It reads the messages in the thread to resolve references like "that device" or "the same project."
Some questions to try:
- "How do I create an event in Foxglove?"
- "List the devices in the nuscenes project."
- "What sites does my organization have?"
- "Show me recent events for the robot-01 device."
You can attach an image to your message — a screenshot or a photo — and the bot uses it to ground its answer.
Disconnect or uninstall
To unlink your own Slack identity from your Foxglove account, open Settings → Connected accounts in the Foxglove app and click Disconnect. This affects only your account; the bot stays installed for the rest of the workspace.
To remove the bot for the whole workspace, uninstall the Foxglove app from your Slack workspace settings in Slack. There's no organization-wide remove action in Foxglove.
