Slack

Foxglove's Slack agent (@Foxglove) can answer questions about your organization's data — recordings, sessions, devices, Projects, sites, and events — directly in Slack. Foxglove cites its sources and reads your data by performing the same operations you'd perform in the app.

In Slack, Foxglove finds and summarizes this data, but it can't open a recording to read topics or messages, and it doesn't send proactive notifications. To work through the contents of a recording, use the Agent sidebar. To bring Foxglove's tools into an agent you already use, see the MCP server.

Before you start​

A Foxglove organization admin has to install Foxglove in your Slack workspace. Once it's installed, anyone in the workspace can use it.

Install Foxglove in Slack​

Do this once per Slack workspace:

  1. In the Foxglove web app, go to Settings → Integrations → Slack.
  2. Click Add to Slack.
  3. Approve the requested permissions in Slack to finish the install (some Slack workspaces require a Slack admin to approve this).

Finish the install in the web app — the last step redirects through your browser. In the desktop app, Settings → Integrations → Slack links you there.

Each Foxglove organization can only be connected to a single Slack workspace.

Connect your account​

The first time you message @Foxglove, it asks you to link your Foxglove account. Linking attributes your Slack messages to your Foxglove user and controls what data Foxglove can access on your behalf.

View or remove the link anytime on the Connected accounts settings page.

Ask Foxglove​

You can talk to Foxglove in two ways:

  • Direct message — send @Foxglove a DM for a private conversation.
  • @mention in a channel — invite @Foxglove to a channel, then @mention it in a message or thread. Foxglove won't automatically reply to follow-up messages in a thread unless you @mention it again.

In a thread, Foxglove reads the earlier messages, so follow-up questions can refer back to "that device" or "the same project" without repeating yourself.

Some questions to try:

  • "How do I create an event in Foxglove?"
  • "List devices in the Stargate project."
  • "What sites does my organization have?"
  • "Show me recent events for the robot-01 device."

You can attach an image to your message — a screenshot or a photo — and Foxglove uses it to ground its answer.

Disconnect or uninstall​

To unlink your own Slack identity from your Foxglove account, open Settings → Connected accounts in Foxglove and click Disconnect. This affects only your account; Foxglove stays installed for the rest of the workspace.

To remove Foxglove for the whole workspace, uninstall it from your Slack workspace settings. There is no organization-wide remove action in Foxglove.
